This paper discusses Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman. In Death of a Salesman, Miller describes Loman's house as being a "...small, fragile-seeming home", and that, "An air of the dream clings to the place, a dream rising out of reality". The "dream", being the American dream of success, wealth and security. The "dream", also represents Willy's fading dreams of a better life, and regretful past. He lives in a fantasy world where the future is still wide open, although his time has passed him by. Miller recommends the design of the setting to be, "wholly, or, in some places, partially transparent", with a one-dimensional roofline.

This paper discusses the search for meaning. The following pages will detail three examples of this existential search that is so prevalent in literature. A search that the characters themselves are not aware of. Arthur Landau in Chayefsky's The Tenth Man, Gregor Samsa in Franz Kafka's The Metamorphosis and the boy in James Joyce's Araby, all share a common bond - they all seek a purpose in life that, heretofore, has eluded them.

88.530 Irony and Foreshadow - Tools in Flannery O'Connor Works.
This paper discuses the foreshadowing and irony to give effect in story, "A Good Man Is Hard to Find." To foreshadow is to give a hint or a suggestion of a forthcoming event. Irony is the inconsistency between what actually happens and what is expected to happen. Both literary devices are represented very early in the story, and serve to set the tone for the piece. The first hint of trouble comes early in the first paragraph, when the grandmother tries to show Bailey a newspaper article about "The Misfit", a convict who has escaped the penitentiary and is en route to Florida.

89.539 An Analysis of Alice in Wonderland.
This paper discusses Alice in Wonderland as a masterpiece of parody and satire. To the first time reader, exactly what the author is parodying and satirizing may remain unclear, but upon further examination Carroll's satirical intentions begin to emerge. Satire, by definition, is "the use of wit, irony or sarcasm to expose vice or folly". Throughout Alice in Wonderland Carroll uses satire to expose the "vice and folly" of the human condition, and more specifically, the adult human condition. Parody is defined as a "humorous or satirical imitation". It can be argued that Alice is a parody on the experience of growing up.
