64.824 Refrigeration And Its Importance To The World
Refrigeration is the process of removing heat from an enclosed space, or from a substance, to lower its temperature. A refrigerator uses the evaporation of a liquid to absorb heat. The liquid, or refrigerant, used in a refrigerator evaporates at an extremely low temperature, creating freezing temperatures inside the refrigerator. A liquid is rapidly vaporized (by means of compression) - the quickly expanding vapor thus requires kinetic energy and therefore draws the energy needed from the immediate area - which loses energy and becomes cooler. Cooling that is caused by the rapid expansion of gases is the primary means of refrigeration today.
Do you want a great way to teach scientific method? As simple as using the earthworm to express the different steps in scientific method. There are six steps to the scientific method: Formulate, Hypothesis, Observation, Experiment, Collect Data, and Draw Conclusion (Scientific Method 1). The earthworm is an important part of agriculture so science has been interested in the segments and locomotion of it. Put the scientific method and the earthworm together and science finds the earthworm interesting.

67.20154 Albert Einstien an Intellectual
Summary: This paper will define what an intellectual is in the literal sense. It will also define Albert Einstein as an intellectual using the technical definition. Then the not define part of an intellectual will be defined by myself and I will incorporate why I think Albert Einstein fits all this criteria as well. I will tie the two together to summarize what I think an intellectual is and why I feel that way. I will also add into the summary why I think Albert Einstein is the best example of what an intellectual is.

69.20315 Sagan and Scientific Literacy
The expression, ?You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free? has New Testament origins and so should probably not serve as the basis for a paper on the importance of scientific literacy, but if we can divorce the saying from its context it would indeed serve as a touchstone for Carl Sagan?s insistence on the importance of scientific literacy ? which he expresses with especial eloquence in The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark as well as throughout much of the rest of his writings. For truth does set us free.

70.20511 Origins: A Research Project
This three-page undergraduate paper is in the form of a research project that studies the origins of life. The author notes that as biological knowledge developed, scientists such as George Buffon and Charles Darwin began to study the origins of life, and over the years formulated theories of evolution that offered the best explanation as to how species originated and evolved on earth. Darwin?s theory of evolution explains better than any other theory how species such as human beings, horses, ants, and others originated and how they adapted to the environment around them.
