130. 16502 What did the Anabaptists Believe?

?Anabaptist? is a blanket term used to cover several different Christian sects that formed after the Reformation and Martin Luther who believe, first, that faith in God must be established and professed as an adult in order to receive baptism. The majority of Anabaptists are Mennonites. Because the faith believed that only adults could fully enter a compact and relationship with Christ based on intellectual and religious evaluation, it would only be adults that could be baptized, not at birth, but in belief. The denial of the validity of infant-baptizm put them at direct odds with both the Catholics and the Protestants. It is the purpose of this paper to examine the specific elements of the Anabaptist faith and to explore their relationship with the more dominant Catholic and Protestant faiths.

131. 16560 Saint Augustine's Confessions

In this paper, we will show how the writing of Augustine's confessions helped Augustine to find and understand himself as interrelated to God. We will focus on one episode, that being the episode in book two where Augustine is a 16 year trouble maker and decides to steal some pears off a tree. Not because he is hungry, but because he wants to be bad, and feel this through theft. This leads to many deep theological and philosophical questions like: Can we know evil if we do not experience it our self? How do we know what bad is, how it feels, what it does to our soul, if we do not partake in a bad act? And then, does a confession remove this evil, or is it always there though our life, as part of our character, part of who we are? In this paper, we will use the Confessions from the Oxford World's Classics, which was translated by Henry Chadwick.

133. 20351 Christian Reality

The Christian reality is one shaped and determined not just upon the sensory-based world, but upon a belief system founded on the faith that God created the world, the universe, and all the systems at work within them. This reality, then, is markedly different from that of the scientific view alone. What believers have is a combination of ancient metaphysics, modern science, theology that has changed markedly over the past two millennia, and a popular culture that is divided over modern evangelism. The Christian reality views the world, all of the molecules, inspirations in art, lifeforms, etc, as having been created or inspired by God. This, then, is in very basic terms what it is meant to ?look? for or ?see? God in ?things?. The modern Christian?s reality is indeed based, at least sub-consciously, upon an underlying ?awareness? of God in everything (Hasker, 21). Therefore, depending upon the depth of the faith and the level of literalism in Biblical interpretation, the very fabric of reality itself is either a self-continuing creation, or the present whim of God. It is the purpose of this paper to examine the Christian Reality from the view of metaphysics, experience, and the myths and rituals of this religion.
